Week 18: Nutrition News with Healthy Recipes...

This week's featured recipe:

Oats
Wholesome oats are sometimes overlooked in the mornings, especially when compared to neon-colored breakfast cereals. But oatmeal doesn't have to be boring. Help your children get the benefits of long-lasting energy, fiber, iron, and protein of this honest-to-goodness superfood by adding fresh, dried, or frozen fruit, nuts or nut butter, honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar. Even better: Set out toppings on your kitchen counter and let kids create their own oatmeal

Chromebook Collection is Tomorrow...

On Wednesday, May 24th, students will be turning in their Chromebooks and chargers to be stored over the summer for next school year.  On Thursday, May 11th, students went through a pre-check.  Devices were initially assessed and if any work orders were needed, Mr. Abernathy began creating the work orders so the Chromebooks will be fixed over the summer.  If your child had not used their insurance yet for a repair this was applied at the pre-check and you have no additional charges.  If your child has already had a repair this year and used their insurance, then a secondary charge was placed on their account and this charge is viewable in Parent Portal.  If you have questions about fees please contact Mrs. Hardy, bookkeeper, at ext. 85404 or e-mail khardy@richland2.org.

Take-up Day

On take-up day students need to have their Chromebook and charger.  If they do not have these items, a charge will be placed on their account until they are submitted.  Please note that the charger is $25.00 and is NOT covered by insurance if the child has misplaced his/hers.

CASES

Students please keep your cases over the summer and have them with you when you return in August.  Whether you are coming back to BMS or going to another school in RSD2, you will need your case to be able to receive a Chromebook in August.  Have a wonderful summer and enjoy this Chromebook Case Tip for ideas of how to keep it fresh and clean for next year.

a.) if a student meets the criteria, the request will be approved and the student will be added to the course.
b.) if the student does not meet the criteria, the roster for the requested class will be checked to determine space availability
i.) if space is available - a waiver conference will be held with the parents. A waiver form will be signed.
ii.) if space is not available, the parent is notified and then informed that the student’s name will be placed on a waiting list for future consideration.

* Please note that consideration for waivers will not begin until the 2nd week of June once we have been able to closeout the 2016-17 school year.

Week 16: Nutrition News with Healthy Recipes...

This week's featured recipe:

Nuts and Nut Butters
Peanut butter gets a bad rep sometimes, but it's a very nutritious child-friendly staple that deserves superfood status. It's inexpensive, easy to store, adored by millions of children, and each 2-tablespoon serving of provides almost half of a preschooler's protein needs, in addition to magnesium, B vitamins, and healthy fats. Feel free to explore almond, cashew, and walnut butters as well. They are equally, if not more, nutritious and perfect on a sandwich, in a smoothie, or added to your favorite muffin recipe.

Summer Reading
Throughout the school year, we encourage students to read a variety of books and resources to expose them to different genres. This also allows students independence in making choices about what he/she wants to learn. Summertime is a great opportunity to continue this type of personalized learning as a family. Scholastic shares Three ways to prevent summer slide to help you get started.

Richland Library is kicking off their annual Summer Learning Challenge on June 1st where children and adults earn points for reading and attending public library events. Children and adults exchange points for prizes. At BMS, we encourage students to track their summer reading  and return a completed summer reading log in the fall at the start of school. Students that turn in a completed summer reading log are invited to a summer reading celebration held at the school during the school day.
