A Message from the Principal

Dear Charger Families,

As the flood waters begin to recede and we attempt to return to a sense of normalcy, we recognize that there are many needs that still exist within our school family, our community, and  our state.  No doubt, school is a place of teaching and learning; however, as we return to the walls of Blythewood Middle School, our goal is to be sensitive to the needs of our students, while at the same time continuing to ensure that teaching and learning takes place.  In the face of the catastrophic events that our community has recently experienced, we realize that experiential learning has certainly taken place and we know that experience is a good teacher!  We will take advantage of the teaching that has already taken place as a result of these events and continue to expand upon the learning that has surely occurred.

Over the next several days, weeks and months, our faculty and staff will be available to assist your student(s), as well as your family. Please feel free to contact the school if there are any needs that you and your family may have for which the school might be able to assist.  Our administrators, teachers, counselors, school psychologist, nurse and school social worker, as well as district office staff are all available to assist students that may just want a listening ear as they continue to sort out their feelings.  Additionally, many of our teachers, student organizations and our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) continue to look for ways that they can give back to our families and the community at large.  We are well aware that in order for students to perform at optimal levels, their basic needs must first be met - Blythewood Middle wants to help in any way that we can.

Finally, we have added to our blog, as well as to our school webpage, various sites and resources that may be of assistance to you and your family, as well as others that may need to know where to turn during this time of rebuilding and restoration. Please click below for additional resources:

2015 Walk for Life/Race for Life

WALK FOR LIFE/RACE FOR LIFE POSTPONED UNTIL EARLY 2016

Important Update!

Over the last few days, our community has suffered tremendously due to unprecedented rainfall and flooding at historic levels. Response efforts have been unlike anything we’ve ever seen before in our community and state. Teams of first responders from our community and surrounding areas have been working day and night to keep us safe and informed. They are heroes! The priority for our law enforcement teams is to help see our community through the flood crisis and move forward towards recovery. This is expected to take some time. Because these critical teams will not be available to safely close streets around Finlay Park and along our walk and race routes, Walk for Life/Race for Life will be rescheduled for early 2016 at Finlay Park in Columbia. We will update you on the date soon. We also will continue to keep registration open for individuals between now and the first of the year.Your interest and continued commitment to beating breast cancer in the Midlands through your participation in Walk for Life/Race for Life speaks volumes about your unwavering commitment to your community and your relentless spirit of giving. Our commitment to this event is strong and unwavering. We hope you will join us to help us fight breast cancer in our community.
In the meantime, if you are a team captain, a member of a team or an individual walker or runner, we want you to have your shirt! Remember—wearing your official 2015 Walk for Life/Race for Life T-shirt or performance shirt will get you free admission to the South Carolina State Fair on Sunday, Oct. 25. To our team captains: Team packet pick-up day will be Monday, Oct. 12, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Palmetto Health Foundation, 1600 Marion St., Columbia. To individual walkers and runners: Pick up your shirts on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (note new timeframe) at Palmetto Health Foundation, 1600 Marion St., Columbia.NOTE: You may pick up your shirts, but we will hold your race bibs until early 2016.
Because of you, Palmetto Health Breast Center will continue to provide the very best care right here at home. Your financial support helps provide critical equipment and enhancements of programs and services, so we are not offering refunds on registration fees. Thank you for all you do to help us beat breast cancer in the Midlands!
