Proof of Residence 2015-2016

It is time to verify and update student information for the 2015–2016 school year.
Parents must provide proof of residence each year.  If you have not turned in this information please do so as soon as possible. Richland District 2 requires that all students turn in this information annually. We are currently working on registration for school year 2015-2016 and want to make the transition run as smooth as possible.
Parents/legal guardians should have received an email containing a “snapcode” and instructions for creating an account through the online system to update information.  For more information please contact Ms. Sierra Haywood, BMS registrar, at 691-6850, ext. 85406.  You may also visit the District’s Enrollment and Annual Registration page.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

ACT/PASS Testing from Mrs. Mazyck

Dear Parents/Guardians:

There are only 5 more days until our students embark upon the new ACT Aspire test.  The first day of testing will begin on Tuesday, April 28th.  As a reminder, this is the state's new end of year standardized test that will replace the SC PASS test in the areas of Writing, English, Reading and Math.  Students will continue to take the SC PASS in the areas of Science and Social Studies on May 7th and 8th.

We have been working closely with our students to prepare them for this test, but we need your help too.  Please continue to talk your child(ren) at home and encourage them to do their personal best.  Unlike the SC PASS, the ACT Aspire will be a timed test.  At Blythewood Middle School, our students have been working with their teachers to practice completing timed assessments and have worked to become familiar with pacing themselves in an effort to complete the test in the allotted time.

During testing, our goal will be to begin testing promptly at 8:00 a.m. each day.  As a result, we ask parents/guardians to assist us by ensuring that your child(ren) get plenty of the rest the night before testing; ensure that your child(ren) get a balanced breakfast each day of testing (as always, breakfast will be served in our café); and stress to your child(ren) the importance of doing his/her best.  Finally, we ask that if your child is a car rider, that you help us ease any testing anxiety that your child may already have by ensuring their timely arrival each day.  Remember, students are tardy at 7:30 a.m.  Students that arrive late to school often miss out on very important information from their content teachers; however, students that arrive late on test days may not get the opportunity to test with their peers and this may cause even more test anxiety for our students.
Help ensure that your child(ren) does his/her very best by talking to your student about the upcoming ACT Aspire test.  Please see the test dates and time limits below:
Tuesday, April 28th :          Writing (30 minutes)
Tuesday, April 28th:           English (35 minutes)
Wednesday, April 29th:      Reading (60  minutes)
Thursday, April 30th:         Math (6th & 7th grade 60 minutes; 8th grade 65 minutes)
If you have any questions, please refer to the district website at:

BMS Pathways to Success is tomorrow night

Blythewood Middle School
is having their annual
BMS Pathways to Success on
Thursday, April 16th, 6:00 p.m.
beginning in the school gym.  This
program will be focusing on making
a successful transition for those students and
their parents who will be
attending Blythewood Middle this fall.
You will learn about summer
opportunities like the BMS JumpStart Camp;
receive information about the
summer reading activity, the
6th grade supply list, and information about
enrichment offerings.  Additionally, you will find
out what Charger Kick-Off
is all about and how you can receive information and keep in touch.
There will be brief sessions you can choose to
attend on how to help your child
with math at home, encouraging your
reluctant reader, as well as learning about
the adolescent child.
The evening provides an opportunity to visit
the 6th grade area classrooms and
meet the teachers.
Our goal is to provide tools for a smooth
transition from elementary school to the
middle
school.  We are looking forward to meeting and
working with you soon.

Thank you again in assisting BMS in getting this
information out to our new
families!

On March 27th a group of six students from BMS and Round Top traveled to Paris. They were accompanied by Mrs. Trapp. Students and their parents visited the Eiffel Tower, Versailles, The Louvre Museum. The students tried crepes, pain au chocolate and escargot.
They took the High speed train to Barcelona and visited Park Guel, The Ramblas, La Sagrada Familia and other houses designed by Gaudi. The students tried the traditional paella and tapas and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon in the hotel spa.
They returned home via Amsterdam full of memories and great pictures.
