ACT/PASS Testing from Mrs. Mazyck

Dear Parents/Guardians:

There are only 5 more days until our students embark upon the new ACT Aspire test.  The first day of testing will begin on Tuesday, April 28th.  As a reminder, this is the state's new end of year standardized test that will replace the SC PASS test in the areas of Writing, English, Reading and Math.  Students will continue to take the SC PASS in the areas of Science and Social Studies on May 7th and 8th.

We have been working closely with our students to prepare them for this test, but we need your help too.  Please continue to talk your child(ren) at home and encourage them to do their personal best.  Unlike the SC PASS, the ACT Aspire will be a timed test.  At Blythewood Middle School, our students have been working with their teachers to practice completing timed assessments and have worked to become familiar with pacing themselves in an effort to complete the test in the allotted time.

During testing, our goal will be to begin testing promptly at 8:00 a.m. each day.  As a result, we ask parents/guardians to assist us by ensuring that your child(ren) get plenty of the rest the night before testing; ensure that your child(ren) get a balanced breakfast each day of testing (as always, breakfast will be served in our café); and stress to your child(ren) the importance of doing his/her best.  Finally, we ask that if your child is a car rider, that you help us ease any testing anxiety that your child may already have by ensuring their timely arrival each day.  Remember, students are tardy at 7:30 a.m.  Students that arrive late to school often miss out on very important information from their content teachers; however, students that arrive late on test days may not get the opportunity to test with their peers and this may cause even more test anxiety for our students.
Help ensure that your child(ren) does his/her very best by talking to your student about the upcoming ACT Aspire test.  Please see the test dates and time limits below:
Tuesday, April 28th :          Writing (30 minutes)
Tuesday, April 28th:           English (35 minutes)
Wednesday, April 29th:      Reading (60  minutes)
Thursday, April 30th:         Math (6th & 7th grade 60 minutes; 8th grade 65 minutes)
