Richland 2 Child Development Program Changes

Child Development Program Changes
May 18, 2015

Spears Creek Road Child Development and Clemson Road Child Development have combined to form the Richland School District Two Child Development Program. Starting in the 2015–2016 school year, the program will offer needs-based, tuition-free 4-year-old child development classes. Students qualify for the program based on risk factors, free- or reduced-price-meal status, and developmental readiness. Children must be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2015. Contact Debbie Brady or Quinne Evans at 699.2536 for more information. The Montessori Magnet Program at Pontiac will continue to accept 3- and 4-year-old children. Services for 4-year-olds will not be tuition-based; tuition will be required for 3-year-olds.

PASS Testing from Mrs. Mazyck

Dear Parents/Guardians:
We have now completed the new ACT Aspire test in the areas of Writing, English, Reading and Math.  Students will continue to take the SC PASS in the areas of Science and Social Studies on May 7th and 8th.

We have been working closely with our students to prepare them for this test, but we need your help too.  Please continue to talk your child(ren) at home and encourage them to do their personal best.  SC PASS is NOT a timed test.

During testing, our goal will be to begin testing promptly at 8:00 a.m. each day.  As a result, we ask parents/guardians to assist us by ensuring that your child(ren) get plenty of the rest the night before testing; ensure that your child(ren) get a balanced breakfast each day of testing (as always, breakfast will be served in our café); and stress to your child(ren) the importance of doing his/her best.  Finally, we ask that if your child is a car rider, that you help us ease any testing anxiety that your child may already have by ensuring their timely arrival each day.  Remember, students are tardy at 7:30 a.m.  Students that arrive late to school often miss out on very important information from their content teachers; however, students that arrive late on test days may not get the opportunity to test with their peers and this may cause even more test anxiety for our students.

Help ensure that your child(ren) does his/her very best by talking to your student about the upcoming PASS Test.
Please see the test dates below:
Thursday, May 7th :   Science
Tuesday, May 8th:    Social Studies
