Greetings Charger Families,

On Tuesday, September 4, 2018, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., we will have an Active Shooter Drill, as required by South Carolina law.  During this drill, the school building will be "locked down" and we will practice what to do should a real emergency occur.  Please take time this weekend to discuss with your families the importance of school safety and the necessity of drills. The safety of our students is, and will always be, our most important priority.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you,
Blythewood Middle School

School Improvement Council
The School Improvement Council is a group of parents, teachers and administrators who meet monthly to advise the principal and discuss ways to improve the school.  The group is seeking volunteers to serve beginning with the 2018 – 2019 school year.  Elections for SIC will be held at Open House on September 13.

Please submit your nominations and a brief bio to Rachel Corvi or by e-mail (rcorvi@richland2.org).  All nominations and bio's must be received by noon on Thursday, September 6, 2018.  The SIC meets the last Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m.

For more information contact Karis Mazyck at 691-6850, ext. 85403.

PTO Fall Fundraiser...

There are many rewards planned for our sellers including: cash prizes, a glow party, limo to lunch and “Principal for the Day.” Please see the letter below, which went home with all students on Wednesday along with the fundraising order form. Thank you for your support of the BMS PTO! Please contact BMSPTO@yahoo.com with any questions.

Open House and School Improvement Information...

Please join us for this year’s Open House Thursday, September 13th, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  All families will need to report to their child’s homeroom at 6:00 to begin orientation.  Families will follow their child’s schedule and important information will be shared throughout the evening. This is a great opportunity to meet all of your child’s teachers and put a name with a face.   You will also have the opportunity to request a parent-teacher conference.

Families with more than one student at BMS may come 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. for a  drop-in to meet teachers of multiple students.  Because our time will be limited, we ask that you please reserve this time for parents that have more than one student at BMS. While we know that this time may not be sufficient to meet all your needs, it will give you the opportunity to meet the teachers and schedule a conference at a later date.  All teachers will be in their classrooms at this time.

While at Open House you will have the opportunity to elect new members to the School Improvement Council.  The School Improvement Council is a group of parents, teachers and administrators who meet monthly to advise the principal and discuss ways to improve our school.  The group is seeking volunteers to serve beginning with the 2018 – 2019 school year.  Elections for SIC will be held during Open House on September 13.  The School Improvement Council is a great way to get involved with your child’s school and help make a difference.

If you are interested in serving on the SIC or know of someone who is, please submit nominations and a brief bio to Rachel Corvi by e-mail (rcorvi@richland2.org).  All nominations and bios must be received by noon on Thursday, September 6, 2018.  The SIC meets the last Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m.  For more information contact Karis Mazyck at 691-6850, ext. 85403.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at Open House.

A message from the Guidance Department...

Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we have worked to fulfill the academic needs of our students through the scheduling process.  As students and teachers are continuing to become fully acclimated to course requirements, course pacing and the new school year, the window for  class schedule changes will close on Friday, August 31.  This will give teachers the opportunity to fully engage students in the academic standards for the 2018-2019 school year.

Great First Day

Greetings Charger Families,

Thank you for helping make our first day of school a huge success!  Our students are busy learning new procedures and forming friendships.

Thank you for your patience this morning as our school year begins.  Student safety is of paramount concern.  Please follow the flow of traffic in the car-rider line.  We ask that you do not cut in and out of the car-rider line.

Please be mindful of your speed in the loading and unloading areas.  Also, please do not enter the bus loop area until 7:00 am in the morning, and in the afternoon, please wait until the buses have left the campus.

As a reminder, students may not be dropped off before 6:50 am, please do not leave students unattended.  Our faculty are not on duty until 6:50 am.  Students should be in their seats by 7:30 am, so plan to arrive in time to allow for potential delays.

Thank you for all of your assistance in making this a fantastic school year!

First Day Information

Some points about the first day of school, Wednesday, August 22:
  • Students will ride the bus or come as a car rider.  Car rider students are dropped off in the front of school, no earlier than 6:50, and should plan to be here by 7:15 to insure enough time to unload and get to homeroom on time.  Students should not be left unattended prior to the opening of school each day at 6:50.  Please check the transportation website for information about buses:  https://www.richland2.org/Departments/Operations/Transportation
  • We dismiss each day at 2:25.  Early Dismissals must be completed before 2:00 p.m. 6th Grade students who are car riders will go to the front of the building.  7th and 8th grade car rider students will go to the back of the building and will begin after buses leave campus.  We follow car rider procedures similar to the elementary schools:  follow the blue line, pull all the way forward.  We do not use name cards.
  • Students should only bring what they will need for one day of school: binder with notebooks and paper and pencils.  All other supplies may remain at home until they are needed.  Please do not send all supplies in to the school.
  • 6th and 7th grade students will keep their bookbags in their lockers for the duration of the school day. Personal cell phones should be turned off and stored with their bookbags in their lockers. Students are not permitted to have cell phones during the school day.  If there is an emergency, please contact the school at 691-6850.
  • Many answers to your questions may be found on our website in our Frequently Asked Questions page, located here.  If you have a question and can't find the answer, please call the school at 691-6850
We are looking forward to a fantastic school year!  See you all soon!
