8th Grade Chromebook Collection is Tomorrow...

 
Students and families please know Chromebooks are being collected soon.  8th grade students will turn in devices and chargers on Friday, June 1st and 6th and 7th Grade students will turn their devices in on Monday, June 4th

Important Reminders:
Remove all stickers you added to your device.  (Do not remove your name sticker or the Blue IT sticker.)
Turn in all chargers. Those who have a White Lenovo loaner device should be turning in 2 chargers due to different chargers.

Keep your Chromebook Case.  You will use your case next year when you get your device back in August whether you return to BMS or go to another Richland Two school.

Blythewood High School Colorguard Auditions...

On May 22-24 (4:30-7:30), the Blythewood High School BLUE LEGION Marching Band will hold colorguard training sessions and auditions for the 2018-2019 competitive season.  The colorguard is the visual component of the marching band that includes dance and spinning and tossing flags, rifles, and sabres.  No experience is necessary to audition, but having dance experience is a plus.  Simply report to the Blythewood High School Band room on the training and audition days in athletic attire.  Auditions are open to ladies AND gentlemen.   Come be a part of the award-winning Blythewood High School BLUE LEGION Colorguard!!!

Scholastic BOGO Book Fair...

The library will host the final book fair of the school year starting May 21st - May 25th.  This will be a Scholastic BOGO (buy one, get one free) book fair. Students will be able to stock up on books for the summer!

Interim Report #2 Quarter 4...

Please be reminded that our first interim report for the 2017-2018 year was sent home as paper copy.  Parents are reminded that all other interim reports at Blythewood Middle School will be accessible via Parent Portal (paper copies will not be printed).  

The second interim of the 4th Nine Weeks is now available for parent review.  Report Cards will be issued on June 7th.

If you have an Active Parent Portal account you may check your child’s grades each week.  When you log into your account, the grades will automatically appear on the screen.  There is not a “report” tab to click on in Parent Portal.

It is important to monitor your child’s grades through Parent Portal before report cards are issued.  If you note that grades are not being updated regularly please contact the appropriate grade-level administrator, counselor or Mrs. Mazyck.

As we approach the end of the school year, please remind your student to return all library books by the final due date of May 18th. Weekly emails are sent out reminding students of overdue library books. 

Books that are not returned by May 18th will be considered lost and a fee to replace the lost book will be added to Parent Portal Accounts.

The window is now open for students to enter their enrichment requests in Parent Portal for next year.  Students have received an elective request form and instructions are also available on the BMS website under the Guidance tab.   Requests should be entered by Monday, May 14 at 9 a.m.  For questions, please contact the guidance and counseling department at 691.6850, ext. 85406.  Thank you and have a good evening.

Testing Begins Tomorrow for SC READY and SCPASS...



Attention Parents!

The SC Ready / SC PASS Test will take place on the following dates:

ELA Day 1 (writing) May 10th
ELA Day 2 (reading) May 11th
Math May 15th
Science (for 6th and 8th grades) May 16th
Social Studies (for grade 7th) May 16th

This year students will have access to hard copies of the ELA passages for Day 1 and Day 2 and will submit their answers online using their Chromebooks.  For Math, Science, and Social Studies, students will have test questions presented to them online using their Chromebook and will submit their answers online.

Parents and students can access the online training tools for all four tests using the following site from the SC Department of Education by going to:  wbte.drcdirect.com/SC/portals/sc

Some things to keep in mind to prepare your child for testing:


  • Please avoid schedulng appointments for your child on this day.  We cannot guarantee when the test will end, and the tests cannot be suspended to be resumed the next day once a student starts the test.
  • Encourage your child to get a good night's sleep.
  • Have your child charge his / or her Chromebook the night before each test and bring the charger to school.
  • Please have your child report any damage to his / her Chromebook to Mr. Abernathy prior to testing starting.
  • Arrive to school on-time. Students who come to school tardy may end up taking their tests in an alternate testing locationor on a make-up testing day.
  • Encoourage your child to take his/her time, to read all of the passages and questions carefully, use the scratch paper provided to take notes, write rough drafts, or work out problems, and to do his / her personal best.
  • Encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast.
Brochures went home with each student with information about these tests with their report cards on April 10th.

Spring Concert Program Designs...

Each semester art students have the chance to design the cover of the music programs used for the concert season. These are the wining images for the Spring Concerts.

Comprehensive Health Information...

During the week of May 21st, all students will attend Comprehensive Health through their science class. Your BMS student is bringing home an opt out letter for Comprehensive Health today. Please fill out the form and have your student return it to your science teacher by May 11th ONLY if you do not want your student to participate in the program. An optional parent meeting will be held on May 3rd starting at 5:30 in the media center for all parents who have questions about the Comprehensive Health program. Parents may also view the videos during the school day beginning May 7th

SC READY & SC PASS Testing Strategies Pep Rally & The Battle of the Chargers Tournament Fundraiser...


Get ready, get ready, get ready... for the SC READY & SC PASS Testing Strategies Pep Rally & The Battle of the Chargers Tournament Fundraiser on Tuesday, May 8th.  

During the Pep Rally & Battle of the Chargers Dodgeball Tournament all of our school's competition teams (football, volleyball, cheer, girls & boys basketball and girls & boys soccer) will have the opportunity to compete in effort to raise money for Dr. Lemrow, our USC Professional Development Liaison.  

Dr. Lemrow has been out due to an extended illness.  She is now returning home to Blythewood, SC as she continues to recuperate.  We are asking all students to donate $1 (or any amount) to attend this school-wide event; however, no student will be refused entry.  

Let's show Dr. Lemrow the heart of the Chargers - all money raised will be donated to Dr. Lemrow as she continues to recover.
