Columbia Fireflies Reading Program...


Columbia Fireflies Reading Program

Our reading program will run from January 22nd to March 20th.  
Students need to “round the bases” by reading 1 book per base, for a total of 4 books within the 8 weeks. Students may read any grade level appropriate books.  
Students who read 4 books between January 22nd- March 20th will receive a form for a free ticket, some free concessions and a bonus prize at the game. If needed, you may order additional tickets on the form. Students will receive the order form when they turn in their completed reading log by March 20th and the forms need to be sent directly to the Fireflies by March 25th. You will receive the tickets in the mail at your home address.

Our game is on Sunday, May 5th at 2:05pm.

Students may pick up a reading log in the library.

Congratulations to our South Carolina Junior Scholars! To become a Junior Scholar, a student must
·         score a 550 or higher on the Evidence Based Reading and Writing Section or a 530 or higher score on the Math section of the PSAT/NMSQT. 

·         Duke TIP participants who were identified and recognized at either the Grand Recognition Ceremony or the State Recognition Ceremony, during their 7th grade year, automatically qualify to become a 2018-19 SC Junior Scholar.

Boys and Girls soccer conditioning will start Tuesday, December 4th, 2018 through Thursday, January 24th.  The first week of conditioning will be Tuesday, December 4th - Thursday, December 6th from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM. All participants must have an updated physical on file in order to participate.  Participating in conditioning does not guarantee a spot on the team.

Starting December 10th, conditioning will take place four days a week, Monday-Thursday. Both Coaches will condition their participants together. Greeting Chargers, 

Tomorrow, January 18th is the end of the 2nd nine weeks and also, an Early Dismissal day.  Students will be dismissed at 10:45.  
 
Monday, January 21st, there is no school due to the MLK Holiday.

Our second Benchmark Testing Window will begin next week.  Testing days are as follows:
Wednesday, January 23 - ELA (All grades)
Thursday, January 24 - Math  (All Grades)
Monday, January 28 - Sci/SS (6th & 8th grade Science; 7th grade SS)

During Benchmark testing, there will be no homework, tests, or quizzes.  


Finally, reports cards will be issued on Thursday, January 24 and our second quarter Honor Roll Parade will be held on Friday, January 25th.  As always, parents are invited to participate in our Honor Roll recognition and celebration at 8:00 a.m in the school gymnasium.
