The BMS Kindness Club is at it again...

The Kindness Club will be taking up donations on Wednesday, January 30th in the morning and afternoon front car rider lines.  They are collecting donations for Palmetto Children's Hospital.  Any amount is welcomed and appreciated.

Book Fair February 2-9th...

The Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the BMS Media Center 
February 2nd through February 9th. 

7am-2:30pm Monday- Thursday

7am- Noon Friday

All proceeds go towards books and resources for our BMS Library.

A message from the Guidance Department...

Project CARE: 2018 Town Hall Meeting ~ Student Participation...

The Project CARE Coalition will host a “Richland Two Town Hall Meeting” on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 6:00-7:15 PM at the Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2). We hope to engage our youth in critical conversations to prevent and reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD). We seek to work collaboratively with you in motivating students in grades 6-8 to attend the Town Hall Meeting. This year’s Town Hall will be informal and conducted in a World Café style. 

We're excited about our students having their voices heard as this will be our first countywide youth-led initiative!

Can we count on you to encourage your students to attend?

Students will:

●        Gain community service hours

●        Receive a Certificate of Appreciation for their portfolios

●        Be recognized during the Closing of the event

We hope your school will be represented during this community event. Thank you for assisting us in keeping our Richland Two communities safe and healthy!

It's not to late to join Beta Club...

Students and Parents,

I have been contacted by several parents in regards to paying for Beta Club fees after the deadline.  The good news is, there is still time to join Beta Club.  The bad news is, you may not be able to participate in the induction ceremony.

If you are still interested in joining Beta Club, please bring a check to Mrs. Hardy in the front office NO later than Thursday, February 8.  Please be sure that Mrs. Hardy knows that the fee is for Beta Club.  I will order certificates Friday, February 9, but they will not be ordered again this year.

Report cards are coming home today for the second nine weeks. Please sign and return the report card cover to your child’s homeroom teacher.  Our second Honor Roll Parade of the school year will be Friday, February 16th @ 8am.

The Blythewood High School Honors Forum is a unique program designed for serious and academically motivated students who wish to challenge themselves with rigorous coursework taught by expert faculty.  Detailed information about the program and an application for the program can be located on the Blythewood High School website (https://www.richland2.org/bh) and each student wishing to apply needs to complete the application and submit it by February 28, 2018.  Parents can also contact Scott Auspelmyer, the Lead Teacher of the Honors Forum, for more information.  His email address is sauspelm@richland2.org. The Honors Forum is only an option for a student who is zoned to attend BHS.

Dear Parents,

Due to school cancellation on Wednesday, January 17th and a delayed start on Thursday, January 18th, we want to share with you a few new dates so that you and your child can be fully informed:

Winter Math MAP testing will take place on Tuesday, January 23rd.  

We will reschedule our Character Awards Breakfast for Thursday, January 25th.  If your student was to receive a Character Award, please note the new date for our awards breakfast.

Blythewood Middle has designated Friday, February 2nd, 2018 as a Job Shadow Day opportunity for our students.

Students may participate by shadowing an adult at a work site, for example a parent's job or a former teacher.  Please note if you wish to job shadow a teacher at a Richland 2 school, you MUST also fill out the *Richland Two Elementary Shadow Request form.

*Absence from school will be excused once ALL the required forms and Job Shadow experience essay are submitted. Instructions are provided in the participation form, link is below.

The winter session of the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) Test will be, January 16th and 17th (Tuesday & Wednesday) during first period.  January 16th will be the Reading MAP test and January 17th will be the Math MAP test. 
Some tips to help prepare students for this test are to get a good night's rest, charge their device overnight and bring the charger to school, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive to school on time. Parents, please encourage your student to take their time, read all questions carefully and do their best!
