Important information on Safety Drills...
Good Evening Blythewood Middle School Families,
Safety of all students is a priority for Blythewood Middle School. In light of recent events, so as to not unduly alarm our students and their families, we wanted to let you know that we will have an intruder drill tomorrow morning to practice our lock down procedures. Additionally, Severe Weather and Flood Safety Week will be observed in South Carolina March 4-10, 2018. The National Weather Service will initiate a statewide tornado drill on Wed nesday, March 7, at approximately 9 a.m. using NOAA weather radios. While we are notifying everyone of our intent to practice safety over the next couple of weeks, we will not always announce these drills ahead of time to insure that students are prepared and knowledgeable in the event of an emergency. If you have any questions, please contact the school.

The Project CARE Coalition will host a “Richland Two Town Hall Meeting” on Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 6:00-7:15 PM at the Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2). We seek to work collaboratively with you in motivating students in grades 6-8 to attend the Town Hall Meeting. This year’s Town Hall will be informal and conducted in a World Café style.
We're excited about our students having their voices heard as this will be our first countywide youth-led initiative!
Can we count on you to encourage your students to attend?
Students will:
● Gain community service hours
● Receive a Certificate of Appreciation for their portfolios
● Be recognized during the Closing of the event

The first interim of the 3rd Nine Weeks will be available for parent review on Friday, February 16th. The 2nd interim will be available March 8th.
It is important to monitor your child’s grades through Parent Portal before report cards are issued. If you note that grades are not being updated regularly please contact the appropriate grade-level administrator, counselor or Mrs. Mazyck.
If you have an Active Parent Portal account you may check your child’s grades each week. When you log into your account, the grades will automatically appear on the screen. There is not a “report” tab to click on in Parent Portal.

Counselor’s Corner
This week is National School Counseling Week.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Ask your child, What can you do to achieve your dreams? Work hard? Sure? Write down your dream on paper so you can see it every day. Of course. But there is one simple thing you must do in order to achieve your dreams – set goals. Goals, similar to dreams, are things that you aspire to do. You can have a goal to get a certain grade in your most challenging class. You can have a goal to create a time management plan for tackling your homework after school. You can even have a goal to wake up a bit earlier each day so you won’t rush in the mornings before school. Goals are things you want to set your mind to accomplish. Stay focused. Be kind. Be great!
