Students in Mrs. Catoe's service learning class were visited by Tanya
Rodriguez-Hodges of the Latino Communications Community Development
Corporation, a local charity that helps low-income families
achieve financial stability. She talked with the class about the
mission of the charity and the value of community service.
At the end of her visit, the class presented Mrs.
Rodriguez-Hodges with a check for over $400 for the Latino Communications
Community Development Corporation. Students in the service learning class
had organized and executed a school-wide fundraiser to collect money for this
great local charity in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
After presenting Mrs. Rodriguez-Hodges with the check for her
charity, the students learned that the money Blythewood Middle School raised
will be used to help a recent flood victim get a new front door for her home.
