Blythewood Middle School SPARK! Club Wins Best in State, AGAIN!

BMS French Teacher Mrs. Catoe, Stephen Warner, Morgan Marshall, Peter Phillips, Darrick  Powell, Brandon Marshall and BMS Visual Arts Teacher Mrs. Atkins.

Richland Two’s Blythewood Middle School is winning again! The SPARK! club joined schools across the nation in the Verizon Innovative App Challenge. The club, sponsored by BMS teachers Mrs. Atkins (Visual Arts) and Mrs. Catoe (French), focuses on giving students a chance to learn more about coding. The five-member team participated in the Verizon App challenge to actively design a mobile app, in hopes to be able to turn their design into a fully-functioning mobile app. The SPARK! club’s mobile app design, called Study Spark, won “Best in State” and is also eligible for the “Fan Favorite Award.”
Voting for the Fan Favorite Award is going on now. To help the BMS SPARK! Club win, please text “STUDYSPARK2” to 22333. The more votes the app design gets, the more likely the school can receive an additional $15,000 in grant funding.
Blythwood Middle’s principal, Mrs. Karis Mazyck, and club sponsors, Mrs. Atkins and Mrs. Catoe, are very proud of the 5 young men who developed the app design. Their app design was chosen “Best in State” for the middle school category, out of the 1,200 submissions from South Carolina this year. Now the BMS SPARK! Club’s design will continue on to the Regional, then, hopefully, the National, competition.
