8th Grade IGP/High School Registration Conferences...

To 8th grade parents:
8th Grade IGP/High School Registration Conferences
All 8th grade students will create an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) and choose a *career cluster during an IGP conference session. The conference participants will include: the rising freshman student, parent, counselor, career specialist and high school counselor. Our IGPs are held in conjunction with the high school registration conference for your convenience; one conference, one trip!
The IGP is part of the career planning process. It builds on the coursework, career assessments and counseling. It is a schedule outlining the courses necessary for the student to successfully prepare for graduation. Students will update their IGPs annually, giving them the flexibility to change their career cluster should their interest change.
*Career Cluster:  A career cluster is a way of organizing and tailoring course work within a specific occupational group, for example, health science or business. They serve to help student learning and course selection.
Blythewood Middle School’s IGP/ High School Registration conferences will be held in April.
Please refer to our web site, blog and school calendar for dates. Parents will receive letters with appointment dates/times.
If you have questions about the middle to high school transition/career planning process, feel free to contact Lara Schmitz, Career Development Facilitator; lschmitz@richland2.org

Week 11: Nutrition News with Healthy Recipes...

This week's featured recipe:
Thirst Quenchers
Recent research suggests that more than half of American children are dehydrated. To help your child get enough water, harness the thirst-quenching superpowers of watermelon, melon, oranges, and cucumber. In addition to hydration, your child will get a healthy dose of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. If your little one is not a fan of the texture of raw fruit and veggies, blend them into smoothies or freeze them into healthy ice pops for a chilly treat.

Young Minds Dreaming Poetry Contest...

BLYTHEWOOD MIDDLE STUDENT WINNER IN “YOUNG MINDS DREAMING” POETRY CONTEST

Over 600 South Carolina students sent in original work for the SC State Library's "Young Minds Dreaming" Poetry Contest, but only nine made the cut to win. Blythewood Middle seventh grader Michaela Lanier won third place in the middle level with her poem "Destructional Peace." The poetry contest was organized as part of this year's May Hill Arbuthnot Lecture events. South Carolina students in grades 3-12 were invited to submit poems relating stories of a person, place, or an experience that made a mark on student's lives to a panel of nine judges.

March 24, 2017

Dear 8th Grade Parents/Guardians:
We are planning a field study for our eighth graders to their zoned high schools.  As one of our SIC(School Improvement Council) goals, we want to provide our 8th graders with a “being there” experience at the high school that they will attend in the Fall. The students will meet with student leaders, club sponsors, athletes, and Lead Teachers who will facilitate a question/answer panel. We are excited about this wonderful opportunity. There is NO COST for the trip.  We will leave Blythewood Middle School at 9:30am and return at approximately 12:00pm. Students will not need money for a meal because we will be back in time for lunch at Blythewood Middle School.
The trip to Blythewood High School is scheduled for Friday, March 31, 2017, Ridge View High School is scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, 2017 and Spring Valley High School is scheduled for Thursday, April 27th.
We sincerely hope that your child will be able to accompany us on this exciting trip.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Carter at (803) 691-6850 ext. 85415.
