Counselor's Corner ~ Community Youth Force...

The Community Youth Force

The Community Youth Force (CYF) is a project designed to motivate young people, between the grades of 7 - 10, to see themselves as contributors to community improvement, especially in areas that impact them and their families. While experience, education and other indirect strategies are viable to prepare the young person for adult responsibility, more direct hands-on opportunities to explore, within a safe and controlled environment, the value and the power of such adult practices as philanthropy, are sometimes more impactful.

Their belief is everyone can be philanthropists and give back through our talent, time and treasure.  Even young people can contribute early in their lives, in some way. Therefore, this project is designed to teach middle and high school students the value of collective and strategic giving through establishing student "giving circles."  They intend to include a minimum of 20 students to participate in monthly sessions from February - June of 2021.  At all times, all participants will be required to practice pandemic safety protocols. While most of their gatherings will be virtual, some may be in person.  If and when they meet in person, they will issue supplies such as masks, face shields, gloves, etc. to all attendees, as well as practice social distancing.

If you are interested, please complete the permission letter and return it to your student's school counselor by Monday, January 25.  Only three or four students will be accepted, so please return the permission letter as soon as possible.
