The Columbia VA Health Care System (VAHCS) will host its annual Summer Student Program for middle and high school students, ages 13-17, June 6, 2023-July 27, 2023. This year’s program will consist of a hybrid model: specialized research projects and STEM enrichment activities. This includes assignments in different departments, lunch & learn opportunities, and special activities, to include seminars, student leadership and journal clubs, networking, presentation skills, and mentoring. High school students may be selected for a hybrid research opportunity; the selection process will include educational qualifications, interests, and references. High school students who are interested in applying for the research component of the summer program must complete and submit both applications, accompanied by a letter of reference from a teacher and a guidance counselor.
The applications and information letter are attached. The deadline for applications is April 7th and as there are limited slots, please note applications must be returned hand signed by the student, as soon as possible. All applications must be returned digitally to vhacmsvoluntaryservices@va.gov and will be time-stamped for accuracy, as it is a first come-first served process.
Program days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00am-4:00 pm, with a $8.00 lunch ticket for the canteen each day. There are many exciting lunch & learn activities planned to help ensure an interesting and exciting program.
