Planning for Middle to High School Transition

Spring Training: Planning for Middle to High School Transition

All 8th grade students, with help from parents or parental designees and school guidance personnel, will create an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) during an IGP conference session.
The IGP is part of the career planning process. It builds on the coursework, assessments and counseling. It is a schedule outlining the courses necessary for the student to successfully prepare for graduation and transition into a profession or post-secondary educational experience. In addition to general graduation requirements and coursework, IGPs include out-of-classroom learning opportunities related to a student's chosen *career cluster of study. Students will update their IGPs annually, giving them the flexibility to change their career cluster should their interest change.
Career Cluster:  A career cluster is a way of organizing and tailoring course work within a specific occupational group, for example, health science or business. They serve to help student learning and course selection.
Note: Students are never locked into a specific career cluster or major, they may change majors if their career/educational interests change.
Blythewood Middle School’s IGP conferences will be held in April. Please refer to our web site and calendar for dates. Parents will receive letters with appointment dates/times. Our IGPs are held in conjunction with the high school registration conference for your convenience; one conference, one trip!
