“Charging Up” for 2017-2018...

“Charging Up” for 2017-2018
As we prepare to close out the 2016-17 school year and plan for the 2017-18 school year, please keep a few important things in mind:

Charger Kickoff for the 2017-18 school year will take place on August 16th and August 18th from 7:00 a.m - 10:00 a.m.  Parents and students may attend either day.  For those new to Blythewood Middle, Charger Kick-off is an opportunity for parents/student to pay fees, get schedules, pick-up Chromebooks, order PE uniforms, etc…  Many thanks to our parents that participated in our surveys at the beginning of the school year and again towards the end of the year to help us decide upon the time of day most convenient for our families for Charger Kickoff.  Please mark your calendar for these two important dates - we look forward to seeing you.

JumpStart Camp: (For Our Rising 6th Grade Students)
Come join us at Blythewood Middle School this summer for 3 days full of fun and excitement!!  Come ready to meet new friends, get comfortable with the layout of the school, learn how to work a lock/locker, get to know some of the 6th grade teachers, and experience fun learning activities.  Snacks will be provided each day.  JumpStart Camp will be held Tuesday, July 18th - Thursday, July 20th from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.  The cost for the 3 day camp is $50.00.  The application and payment deadline is Thursday, July 13th.

Step-Up to Sixth:
Step-Up to Sixth will be held Friday, August 18th.  Step-Up to Sixth is a District-wide program for our rising 6th grade students and allows them to get acclimated to the school a day before the 7th and 8th grade students return.  We look forward to seeing our new 6th graders on August 18th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  (Buses and student drop off information is forthcoming)

Get the “wHole” Scoop:  Is your child a 7th or 8th grader that will be attending Blythewood Middle School for the first time during the 2017-18 school year? We will be serving donut “holes” and giving you the “wHole” scoop about BMS . Come “Get the “wHole” Scoop!”  This event is designed for student that will enter BMS for the very first time as a 7th or 8th grade student. Join us in the Media Center, Friday, August 18th from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.  Don’t forget to bring any questions that you might have!!

We will also have a special schedule pick-up from 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. so that you can report immediately from schedule pick-up to the Media Center.

We look forward to seeing you.

Richland Two Waiver Process:
Parents desiring to waive their student into Honors level classes should submit a written email/letter of request to the school stating their reason for wanting their student waived in an Honors and/or  Accelerated class (that includes high school credit courses).  After a written letter of request is received, a member of the administrative team will review the student’s data to determine if they meet the criteria for placement into the course(s):

a.) if a student meets the criteria, the request will be approved and the student will be added to the course.
b.) if the student does not meet the criteria, the roster for the requested class will be checked to determine space availability
i.) if space is available - a waiver conference will be held with the parents. A waiver form will be signed.
ii.) if space is not available, the parent is notified and then informed that the student’s name will be placed on a waiting list for future consideration.

* Please note that consideration for waivers will not begin until the 2nd week of June once we have been able to closeout the 2016-17 school year.
