Attention 8th Grade Parents...

May 6,  2020

Dear Charger Families,

At a time when our 8th grade students would normally be enjoying the end of their 8th grade year by spending time with their friends, making memories during the 8th grade Field Experience, getting dressed to the nines for the 8th grade formal and preparing to walk the halls of middle school one last time, we find ourselves instead, in the middle of a pandemic that none of us could have predicted.  Their 8th grade school year abruptly came to an end!  Unfortunately, our students have missed out on so many of the usual memories that mark their transition to high school.

The physical distancing that comes with the COVID-19 pandemic makes so many things within schools difficult, and while we are unable to have our traditional 8th grade promotion, our goal is to still make our students’ 8th grade year as memorable as possible.  This year, the promotion ceremony will be virtual and will broadcast on Friday, June 5th at 8:30 a.m.  Nevertheless, several special components will still be available to make the 8th grade end of year a memorable one.  As part of the promotion ceremony, since students cannot walk across the stage, we have asked parents to provide two photos of your student (please be sure to submit your photos no later than May 8th).  These photos will be part of a slideshow presentation.  Each student will have his/her own slide as part of the presentation.  The slideshow will be provided as a special keepsake for our 8th grade students.  The Friday prior to the 8th grade promotion, May 29th, Blythewood Middle School will host a drive-thru parade to honor our 8th grade students.  Faculty and staff will be available to celebrate our students (physically distanced, of course) and yard signs will be available for every student in our bus loop.  These signs will later be given to our students for display in their yards during the week of June 1st - June 4th when the district provides further directives on how students/families will be permitted to come to the school to gather any belongings and drop off textbooks and other items at the school.

Please stay tuned for your special invitation for the 8th grade drive-thru parade and the 8th grade virtual promotion ceremony.

If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Greta Carter, 8th grade administrator or Mrs. Mazyck, principal.
